Family business has settled its succession
Herbold Meckesheim has settled its succession: The German engineering company announced it would become part of the Coperion Group, headquartered in Stuttgart. Coperion, in turn, belongs to Hillenbrand Inc, a global industrial group headquartered in Batesville, Indiana, USA.

The name as well as the brand and the location of Herbold Meckesheim will remain after the takeover. The current managing board will also stay in office. The companies expect the acquisition to be completed in the third quarter of the current tax year – subject to the expected approval of the authorities. Herbold Meckesheim will then be part of Coperion’s recycling business unit.
Herbold Meckesheim was founded in 1884 as a family business and is currently managed by Werner and Karlheinz Herbold in the fourth generation. The special machinery manufacturer employs some 240 people at its headquarters in Meckesheim, its production site in Reichartshausen and its U.S. subsidiary in North Smithfield, Rhode Island. Herbold Meckesheim develops and produces machines and systems for plastics recycling and covers the entire process with its modular system solutions and automated recycling lines: from shredding to washing and separating to drying of used, mixed and contaminated plastics such as plastic waste. The machines and plants are sold worldwide.
Around 2500 employees work for Coperion at almost 30 locations. Recycling is one of Coperion’s strategic growth initiatives. Through the acquisition of Herbold Meckesheim, the machine manufacturer intends to extend its product range with key technology to the entire recycling value chain from shredding, washing, separation and drying to material handling, feeding, re-granulation and compounding. The group of companies will thus be able to offer complete recycling systems and total plants based on state-of-the-art technology.
